Before you begin
Wasteland is an 18+ Project Zomboid roleplaying community. In-character communication is text-based. Your character is part of a shared story, and the people around you help shape what happens next.
Start with the community rules, then read the Season 7 lore to understand the setting. Keep your character grounded in that world, and leave room for them to grow through play.
Join the community
Discord is where you’ll find the community and can ask staff for help. Join the Wasteland server before signing in here; membership in that server is required. Use the Join Discord link on this website to find the community.
Sign in with Discord
Use the same Discord account you joined the server with. We’ll check your membership and take you to your membership page.
Create a draft in the member portal. Submitting requires the Submit characters permission and a season accepting applications. Check Discord for game-login instructions.
When you get in-game
A few pointers from Wasteland’s starting information:
- If you return to the character creation screen after already creating your character, exit and reload rather than remaking them.
- You start with some in-game currency. Keep it safe—it helps you get established.
- Many skills are capped according to the traits you choose at the start. Consider specializing rather than trying to do everything.
- Your starting radio helps you find other people. Channel 100 is the public in-game channel.
- Store modded backpacks inside containers rather than leaving them on the ground; some can despawn.
- Use
/statusfor a short visible description, and right-click your character to set characteristics. - Explore the chat box’s settings for features such as focusing on one player in a busy scene.
