RP Planning Tickets are a ticket type on the Wasteland Discord that allows you to keep discussions and plans in a spot where they can be retroactively moderated and enforced if there is an issue later (unlike DMs).
Making plans with other players is hard, and there is constant temptation to just DM someone to iron out the details. The issue with this is that Wasteland has a policy of not moderating DMs-- because DM screenshots can be edited, they are not a reliable source of information. That's where RP Planning Tickets come in.
How do RP Planning Tickets Work?
Found under the "Create a Ticket" function on the WL Discord, pressing that button will open up a ticket with just you and the admins in it. Only Admins (green crowns) can see this ticket type, so you don't have to worry that other staff will be able to see potentially secretive information.
Once you have opened a ticket, you can add any player(s) you want using the /add [user] command.
What RP Planning Tickets are good for:
- Deciding on a time for your characters to meet up in-game (and planning a good time for an event with multiple players)
- Talking with another player to come up with a shared backstory before you create your characters (for example, if you wanted to play sisters)
- Planning more intense scenes to make sure no OOC boundaries are crossed, like if you plan to have your character torture or maim someone (as referenced in the Sensitive RP Topics section here)
- Checking in with someone because you think they might be bummed after a difficult RP session
- Asking permission to do something that might ruin a character's image, like spreading deliberate falsehoods or framing them for something
- Getting into the nitty-gritty of base planning (after your characters have already staked out an area and discussed it IC), like build tickets and material lists
What RP Planning Tickets are not good for:
- Being a private hangout with friends. Make a faction!
- Sharing meta information, like gathering your friends together and linking a post that shows the location of someone's base
- This also includes more minor metas, like conveying information OOC that your characters haven't learned IC first. Meet up, talk about the topic ("It's Jerry's birthday soon, we should throw him a surprise party!") and then open a Planning Ticket to iron out OOC details
- Attempting to find a time for everyone to meet up, but nobody can and the ticket festers for a long time (close it and open it again later-- RP Planning Ticket slots are limited!)
RP Planning Tickets are not a replacement for IC interaction, they are meant to facilitate OOC discussion. You should attempt to do as much of the interaction ICly first, and then move on to OOC concerns.
What do I do if someone agrees to something in an RP Planning Ticket and then backs out?
As with everything, there's nuance here. RP Planning Tickets are not contracts, but they are a way to cover your ass. For example, if you and a player talk boundaries about a difficult scene and afterwards the other player decides that actually it wasn't all right (or maybe even reports it), you have the RP Planning Ticket to show us. If it happened in DMs, it's not covering your ass.
We don't strictly enforce everything that happens in a planning ticket, but more often than not if you did it in a planning ticket and everything was above board and extensively discussed (and everything played out in-game as discussed), then we will agree that it's canon.
Basically, RP Planning Tickets are a "paper trail" to show that you did your due diligence.
